Morning Class Trip to Nivens

Today, the morning class went on a special field trip to Nivens Apple Farm to learn about how apples and pumpkins grow!
Who doesn't love a bus ride?  Thomas said this was his favorite part of the trip!
 So excited!!!

The first thing that we did when we got to the farm was take a hay ride.

The hayride was so much fun!  We got to ride through the pumpkin patch, apple orchard and storybook forest.
The hayride dropped us off at the apple orchard.  We stopped to pick some yummy apples!

After some apple-picking fun, we headed to the playground to play for a few minutes.
 Our boys loved the tee-pee.
Next, we went to see the animals.  It was very chilly this morning, so most of the animals were tucked away.  We did see a cow, pig, chicken, and goat.
We had to stop for a quick snack!
Next, we stopped in the farm store to see the baby chicks and bees.
Lastly, we went to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins!

We had so much fun on our field trip!  It was a wonderful fall day!

Balloon Launch and Pride Spot

Today we celebrated Anti-Bullying Month by wearing blue and having a balloon launch.  During the launch, we said our anti-bullying chant and promised to be a bully-free school.

After the launch, we stopped by our "Panda Pride Spot".  We have worked really hard to make our spot look nice and neat.  We even added some fall decorations to our area.

We were honored to be named "Panda Pride Spot of the Month"!!!
Go Mrs. Henderson's Class!  We are very proud of this award!

Red

Last week we learned all about the color red.  We talked about things that were normally red.  We searched around the room for things that we red.  We did a red circle map, and we ended the week by making red playdough!  We had so much fun with our first "cooking" experience with this class.  The kids learned all about what a recipe was and how to follow it.  When we were finished we had some nice, soft playdough to do some fine motor activities with.  We plan to do many other fun cooking activities with our students.
Recipe for playdough: 2 cups of flour,
 1 cup of salt,
 2 cups of water,
 2 tablespoons of oil,
4 teaspoons of cream of tarter and color and scent of your choice.
Stir over heat until it forms into dough, then knead on a flat surface.
 Tada!  We have red playdough!
We used cherry jello mix to make our playdough smell sweet!
We had such a great time celebrating "Red Week"!

Bird Feeders

Today we made bird feeders for the winter birds to enjoy.
First the kids had to spread peanut butter onto a pine cone.
They then had to sprinkle on bird seeds.

And here is the finished product!  We tied strings around the tops and hung them on the tree outside of our classroom window in our "Panda Pride Spot".  The kids have LOVED watching the birds eat off of their home-made bird feeders.
