Fall Celebrations

Today we ended the month of October with a special fall celebration.
We made some special spider hats today.
We talked about the number 8 and learned the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" nursery rhyme.
It was also Danny's birthday, so we celebrated him as well.

Today was a very fun day of celebration!

Pumpkin Carving Time!

Today we carved some large pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns!
We started by cutting off the top.
The kids then enjoyed touching and smelling (yuck) the insides of the pumpkin.

Each of the kids grabbed a handful of the "pulp" and tried to pick out the seeds.

It was then time to carve our jack-o-lantern's face.  The kids made suggestions of shapes for the eyes, nose and mouth.
 Our finished product!
The afternoon class got to carve a pumpkin as well!

Fire Prevention Month

In honor of fire prevention month, the Reidville Fire Department came to our school to teach us about fire safety!
They put on their special suit to show us that we should not be scared of them in case they have to come to our house to help us.
We enjoyed learning what to do and what not to do in case of an emergency!
Thank you, Reidville Fire Department!

Apple and Pumpkin Week

This week was a very special week.  In addition to going on field trips to Nivens Apple Farm, we also did experiments with apples and pumpkins.  We even ended our week with a special, yummy snack!
We joined Mrs. Cureton's class to do observations on the similarities and differences between apples and pumpkins.
We noted their color, size and smell.

We then did a little experiment to see if apples and pumpkins would float or sink when placed in water.  Each student made a prediction and then noted what they observed.

We were surprised to find out that they both actually floated!
Then on Friday we made some yummy apple pies!

We had such a fun week full of hands-on learning and lots memorable experiences!

Afternoon Field Trip

The afternoon class took their trip today to Nivens Apple Farm.
We started with a hayride around the farm.

 The Pumpkin Patch!
The tractor stopped to let us pick some yummy apples.

We stopped to look at the HUGE pumpkins!

And then each of us got to pick our own baby pumpkin.

We had such a great trip!  It was truly a fun, fall day!

Walk to School Day

Today we had our "Walk to School Celebration"!
We got to experience a little bit of what it must have been like to have to walk to school every day.

Our boys did such a good job holding our sign!
After our long walk, the boys got to enjoy a cool treat.
"Walking to school" was fun, but I think we are all glad that we don't have to do that every day!
